Introduction
The City of Southampton Football League (CSSFL) is an amateur football league in Southampton, England. It was founded in 1922 and currently has over 200 teams competing in 11 divisions. The league is affiliated to the Hampshire Football Association.The CSSFL is divided into two sections: the Sunday League and the Saturday League. The Sunday League has 10 divisions, while the Saturday League has 1 division. The top division of the Sunday League is the Premier Division, while the top division of the Saturday League is the First Division.
History
The CSSFL was founded in 1922 by a group of local footballers. The league initially had just 8 teams, but it has grown steadily over the years. In 1992, the league introduced a Saturday League to complement the Sunday League.The CSSFL has produced a number of professional footballers, including former Southampton players Matt Le Tissier and Alan Shearer. The league has also been used as a training ground for young players, with several current Premier League players having played in the CSSFL at some point in their careers.
Current Season
The 2023-2024 season is currently underway. The Premier Division of the Sunday League is currently being led by AFC Hutwood, while the First Division of the Saturday League is being led by Butlocks Heath FC.The season will culminate in the playoff finals, which will be held in May 2024. The winners of the playoff finals will be promoted to the next higher division.
