The Cheshire & Manchester Sunday League is an amateur football league based in the north-west of England. It was founded in 1920 and currently has over 300 clubs competing in its 11 divisions.
History
The Cheshire & Manchester Sunday League was founded in 1920 by a group of amateur footballers in the north-west of England. The league's first season consisted of just 10 clubs, but it has since grown to become one of the largest amateur football leagues in the country.
The league has been home to some of the best amateur footballers in the world, including former England internationals Paul Scholes and David Beckham. In recent years, the league has also become increasingly diverse, with clubs from a variety of ethnic backgrounds competing for honours.
Structure
The Cheshire & Manchester Sunday League is divided into 11 divisions, with each division containing 16 clubs. The top division is the Premier Division, followed by the First Division, the Second Division, and so on.
The league season runs from September to May, with each team playing each other once in a single round-robin format. The top two teams in each division are promoted to the next division, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the lower division.
Cup competitions
The Cheshire & Manchester Sunday League also organises a number of cup competitions, including the League Cup, the Challenge Cup, and the President's Cup. These competitions are open to all clubs in the league, and provide an opportunity for teams to win silverware and qualify for national competitions.
