Bridgwater & District Sunday Football League
The Bridgwater & District Sunday Football League is an amateur football league in Somerset, England. It was founded in 1922 and currently has over 100 teams competing in its various divisions.
History
The Bridgwater & District Sunday Football League was founded in 1922 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The league initially had just four teams, but it has grown steadily over the years and now has over 100 teams competing in its various divisions.
The league has been home to some successful teams over the years, including Bridgwater Town, who won the FA Sunday Cup in 1997. The league has also produced a number of professional footballers, including Dean Windass and Darren Purse.
Divisions
The Bridgwater & District Sunday Football League has a total of 10 divisions, with the Premier Division being the top flight. The other divisions are Division 1, Division 2, Division 3, Division 4, Division 5, Division 6, Division 7, Division 8, and Division 9.
The teams in each division play each other twice, once at home and once away. The top teams in each division are promoted at the end of the season, while the bottom teams are relegated.
Cup competitions
The Bridgwater & District Sunday Football League also runs a number of cup competitions, including the Challenge Cup, the League Cup, the Presidents Cup, and the Charity Cup.
The Challenge Cup is the most prestigious cup competition in the league, and is open to all teams in the league. The League Cup is a knockout competition for teams in the Premier Division and Division 1. The Presidents Cup is a knockout competition for teams in Divisions 2 to 9. The Charity Cup is a knockout competition for teams in Divisions 6 to 9.
