Blyth & Wansbeck Sunday League
The Blyth & Wansbeck Sunday League is an amateur football league based in Northumberland, England. It was founded in 1988 and currently consists of 20 teams competing in a single division. The league is affiliated to the Northumberland Football Association.
History
The Blyth & Wansbeck Sunday League was founded in 1988 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The inaugural season saw 12 teams compete in the league, with Bedlington Social Club being crowned champions. The league has since grown to its current size of 20 teams.
The league has been won by a number of different teams over the years, including Bedlington Social Club (7 times), Ashington Buffs (6 times), and Stakeford Cherry Tree (5 times). The current champions are Stakeford Cherry Tree, who won the title in the 2022-23 season.
League Structure
The Blyth & Wansbeck Sunday League consists of a single division of 20 teams. Each team plays each other team once, home and away. The top team at the end of the season is crowned champions, while the bottom team is relegated to the Northumberland Football Association Sunday League.
The league also has a cup competition, the Blyth & Wansbeck Sunday League Cup. The cup competition is open to all teams in the league and is played in a knockout format. The winners of the cup competition qualify for the Northumberland Football Association Sunday Cup.
