Introduction
The Best Division 1 is an amateur football league in the Netherlands. It is the highest level of amateur football in the country, and is played by 20 clubs. The league is divided into two groups of 10, and each team plays each other team in their group twice, once at home and once away. The top two teams from each group qualify for the promotion playoffs, with the winners of the playoffs being promoted to the Tweede Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football.
History
The Best Division 1 was created in 2016, when the Topklasse was renamed and restructured. The Topklasse was the previous highest level of amateur football in the Netherlands, but it was disbanded due to financial difficulties faced by some of the clubs. The Best Division 1 was created as a replacement for the Topklasse, and it has been running ever since.
