1e Klasse
The 1e Klasse is the sixth tier of the Dutch football league system. It is divided into ten divisions, each with 14 teams. The champion of each division is promoted to the Vierde Divisie (formerly Hoofdklasse).
History
The 1e Klasse was originally the top tier of Dutch football, from 1898 to 1956. In 1956, the Eerste Divisie was introduced as the new top tier, and the 1e Klasse was relegated to the second tier. In 1971, the Tweede Divisie was introduced, and the 1e Klasse was relegated to the third tier. In 2010, the Topklasse was introduced as the new third tier, and the 1e Klasse was relegated to the fourth tier. In 2016, the Topklasse was renamed the Derde Divisie, and the 1e Klasse remained in the fourth tier.
Current season
The current season of the 1e Klasse started on 26 August 2023 and is scheduled to end on 14 May 2024. The champions of each division will be promoted to the Vierde Divisie, and the bottom two teams in each division will be relegated to the Tweede Klasse.
