Bayern Munich and Augsburg will lock horns at the Allianz Arena for their first meeting of the 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign.
As of the time of writing, Bayern Munich have garnered 23 points and they sit top of the log after nine games played. Augsburg have 11 points from nine games and they stay in 11th position.
The season was expected to be better than last term for Bayern Munich who finished the season trophyless. The Bavarians lost the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen as well as the DFB Pokal, while eventual winners Real Madrid sent them out in the UEFA Champions League. In a bid to get back on track, the club settled for Vincent Kompany, former Burnley manager, to lead them as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement. The Belgian was handed a three-year deal at the end of May.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge," Kompany said. "It's a great honour to be able to work for this club - FC Bayern is an institution in world football.
"As a coach, you have to stand for what you are as a personality: I love having the ball, being creative - and we also have to be aggressive on the pitch and courageous. I'm now looking forward to the basics: working with the players and building a team. When the foundation is in place, success will follow."
"We're delighted to have signed Vincent Kompany," Bayern sporting director Max Eberl. "In our talks with him, we were immediately on the same page. He clearly showed us how much FC Bayern appeals to him and that he is keen to take on the challenge.
Certainly, the club needed a new direction after last season’s disappointment. Up to the challenge, Bayern Munich started the season with a 4-0 win over Ulm in the DFB Pokal. In the Bundesliga, the Bavarians won their opening four games against Wolfsburg, Freiburg, Kiel, and Werder Bremen before a 1-1 draw with defending champions Bayer Leverkusen at home. In the Champions League, Bayern Munich thumped Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 before a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa. A 4-1 defeat at the hands of Barcelona then followed before a hard-fought 1-0 win over Benfica got them back on track.
Back in the Bundesliga, Kompany’s side played an entertaining 3-3 draw against Frankfurt before three consecutive wins against Stuttgart, Bochum, and Union Berlin sent them to the summit of the log. The side also progressed in the DFB Pokal after beating Mainz 4-0 in the round of 32. The side is looking good on all fronts and Kompany must be pleased with what he has done so far.
Meanwhile, Augsburg has been quite decent in the Bundesliga this term. They have been playing in domestic competitions as they are not in Europe this term. Die Fuggerstädter started the campaign with a 4-1 win over Viktoria Berlin in the DFB Pokal. Their first two Bundesliga games against Bremen and Heidenheim failed to produce a win but they eventually claimed their first win of the season against St. Pauli. It took them another three games before they secured a win - against Borussia Monchengladbach. The biggest win of the season came against Dortmund in a 2-1 win when Alexis Claude-Maurice scored a brace. In addition, they also progressed into the round of 16 of the DFB Pokal after beating Schalke 04 3-0.
Bayern Munich have won the past three Bundesliga meetings between the two teams and they have won the past five games they have hosted at the Allianz Arena. With the form the Bavarians are at the moment, it will be difficult to look past them.
Bayern Munich and Augsburg have met 32 times since 2008. Bayern Munich have won 25 times, Augsburg have won 5 times and the remaining 2 meetings have ended in draws.

Team news
Line-ups
Bayern Munich have started the Bundesliga season in fine form under former Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany. He has been able to galvanise the squad to compete and lead the Bundesliga log at this point. Skipper Manuel Neuer continues to man the goal, while Joshua Kimmich and Joao Palhinha are beginning to form a partnership in midfield. In attack, summer signings Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, and Harry Kane have been delivering the goods for the Bavarians. Josip Stanisic and Hiroki Ito are some of the injured players expected to miss the game.
Bayern Munich XI: Manuel Neuer; Konrad Laimer, Dayot Upamecano, Min-jae Kim, Alphonso Davies; Joao Palhinha, Joshua Kimmich; Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry; Harry Kane.
Augsburg do have some injured players ahead of this clash. Fredrik Jensen and Ruben Vargas are expected to miss this trip to Munich. However, Brentford loanee Franck Onyeka should retain his place in midfield, Claude-Maurice in attack and Labrovic stay in goal.
Augsburg XI: Nediljko Labrovic; Chrislain Matsima, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, Kevin Schlotterbeck; M. Wolf, Franck Onyeka, K Jakic, E. Rexhbecaj, D. Giannoulis, Alexis Claude-Maurice, Phillip Tietz.
Prediction
Bayern Munich have been imperious in some games this term. Kompany has been able to figure out his team with the likes of Olise, Musiala, and Kane finding expression in attack. At home, Bayern Munich have only dropped points once all season, and winning here should not be difficult.
Augsburg is just hovering above the teams in the bottom zone, and they will be looking to pull away. However, they have a difficult task to get a result from Munich as they have lost in each of their five previous trips there.
Judging by history and form, Bayern Munich should carry the day. By the way, getting Bayern Munich tickets could be a bit tricky as the year is coming to an end.
